A gathering of teachers and students from maritime schools occurred this afternoon in Suva, where they were presented with sporting equipment valued at $15,000. This event, organized by the Fiji Secondary Schools Association (FSSAA) in collaboration with Sports World, aims to aid these schools in their preparations for the upcoming 2025 Fiji Finals competition. The equipment will be distributed among seven schools: Ratu Lalabalavu Memorial School, Cicia High School, Adi Moapa Secondary School, Gau Secondary School, Richmond Methodist High School, Vunisea Secondary School, and Rotuma High School.

This initiative is part of a larger donation package from Coca-Cola Fiji totaling $50,000 for the Fiji Finals. Of this, $35,000 is allocated for prize money for the top boys’ and girls’ teams, while the remaining $15,000 is dedicated to supporting maritime schools, showcasing a strong commitment to promoting athletics within the region.

Biu Colati, secretary of the FSSAA, expressed his gratitude for Sports World’s partnership, stating that their contribution will be invaluable for the students’ preparation efforts. Notably, the vouchers paid to Sports World also included an additional 15 percent, reflecting their commitment to maximizing the assistance provided to these schools.

This collaboration and investment in local sports not only affirm a dedication to athleticism but also encourage student engagement in healthy activities. Events like the Fiji Finals not only motivate students to excel in sports but also strengthen community ties and foster a sense of achievement among young athletes.

Overall, such initiatives indicate a hopeful trajectory for the future of athletics in Fiji, paving the way for the next generation to reach their full potential in both sports and academics. The build-up to the Fiji Finals, set to occur soon, is anticipated to draw significant participation and enthusiasm from the entire community, further promoting the value of sports in education.
