The Fiji Water Flying Fijians have confirmed a series of four Test matches against Tier One teams this year, as announced following the release of the Autumn Nations Series fixtures on Tuesday. The Mick Byrne-coached team will face England on November 8-9 and France on November 15-16. Notably, the Flying Fijians previously made headlines by defeating England 30-22 at Twickenham on August 26, 2023, marking a significant victory for the team.
Fiji Rugby Union’s chief executive officer, Rovereto Nayacalevu, emphasized the importance of competing against top rugby nations. He stated that these matches will not only serve as a barometer for the team’s performance but also contribute positively to their preparation for the 2027 Rugby World Cup. He shared that ongoing discussions are focused on finalizing agreements regarding venues and logistics for the matches.
In addition to these high-profile fixtures, the Flying Fijians will also play Spain, with the match scheduled either in Madrid or Valladolid on November 22. Earlier in the year, they are set to meet the Australian Wallabies on July 5 in Newcastle, followed by a test against Scotland, and ultimately, a match against Tonga at a venue yet to be determined.
Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fijiana XVs will also be in action, competing in two Test matches against the USA on July 19 and 26, and facing Samoa on August 9. This is part of their preparations leading up to the Women’s Rugby World Cup, which will take place in England from August 22 to September 27.
The upcoming matches for both the Flying Fijians and Fijiana teams provide essential platforms for showcasing their skills, gaining international experience, and building towards future success in rugby. Fans are eagerly anticipating these competitive encounters as Fiji continues to solidify its reputation on the global stage.
