The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) conducted an important anti-corruption awareness session at the headquarters of Vinod Patel And Company Pte Limited in Nabua on Thursday. The event was designed to deepen employees’ understanding of corruption risks and effective preventative measures. Staff from all four divisions of Vinod Patel participated in the session, reflecting the company’s commitment to fostering integrity in its operations.
Paulina Rauca, Principal Corruption Prevention Officer of FICAC, highlighted the vital role of recognizing corruption risks within the workplace. She pointed out that educating team members about policies, particularly regarding gift-giving, is crucial for instilling a culture of integrity. “Knowledge is the first line of defense against corruption. We empower individuals to recognize and resist its allure,” Rauca explained, underlining the proactive stance that businesses like Vinod Patel can take in the fight against corruption.
Latileta Qoro, Vinod Patel’s General Manager for Environmental, Social, and Governance, conveyed gratitude towards FICAC for the practical insights shared during the session, noting that it has significantly bolstered the company’s anti-corruption initiatives. Meanwhile, Davies Mani, the General Manager of Properties and Projects, praised the session for equipping employees with the necessary tools to navigate complex ethical dilemmas, particularly in their interactions with government officials and local authorities.
The event also reinforced Vinod Patel’s recently launched Anti-Bribery Policy, marking a critical step in their strategic approach to combating corruption. Qoro affirmed that the company plans to continue these awareness sessions, collaborating closely with FICAC’s Education and Prevention team to enhance internal controls and risk management.
This awareness initiative is part of a broader commitment by FICAC to educate the public and businesses about corruption. Following a similar campaign launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Works, FICAC is emphasizing public education as a foundation for integrity and accountability across various sectors. By continuously fostering partnerships and raising awareness, Fiji is taking significant steps toward creating a culture resistant to corruption.
Overall, these proactive measures from both FICAC and corporate entities like Vinod Patel signal positive movement towards a more transparent and accountable governance structure in Fiji, laying the groundwork for a future where integrity thrives.
