As Fiji commemorates International Anti-Corruption Day, the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) remains steadfast in its mission to uphold integrity and tackle corruption. Commissioner Barbara Malimali emphasized the agency’s commitment to fulfilling its responsibilities as detailed in their governing Act.
Malimali highlighted that the work of FICAC is essential not only in investigating and prosecuting corrupt activities but also in educating the public about the dangers of corruption. She underscored the harmful effects that corruption can have on democratic institutions and public trust, referring to it as a detrimental force that threatens the foundations of society.
The Commissioner reiterated the organization’s vital role in promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability, which aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Malimali also appealed to the public and stakeholders to actively engage in the fight against corruption by reporting any suspicious activities to FICAC.
This year’s theme for International Anti-Corruption Day, “Support FICAC to fight corruption, promote transparency, and uphold integrity in Government and Society,” serves as a rallying call for collective action against corruption.
In conclusion, FICAC’s ongoing efforts and the community’s involvement are crucial in building a more transparent and accountable society, ultimately fostering a climate of trust that benefits all Fijians. Together, there is hope for a future where integrity prevails over corruption.
