The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is being urged to bolster its anti-corruption awareness initiatives, particularly by enhancing its engagement through social media to better reach the youth and broader public in Fiji. The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence made these recommendations in its review of FICAC’s annual reports from 2018-2020, indicating that while FICAC has produced animated educational materials, its outreach efforts remain insufficient.
The committee has suggested incorporating anti-corruption messages into school curricula and intensifying digital promotion of these programs. They stressed the need for a blend of educational and engaging formats to effectively share information and boost public awareness.
FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali has previously underscored the significance of empowering citizens to identify and report corrupt activities, which is crucial to nurturing a culture of integrity and accountability in Fiji.
