The Fijian Elections Office has set pay rates for temporary election staff and opened the first phase of nationwide recruitment, detailing remuneration that ranges from $150 for venue assistants to $450 for presiding officers. The public notice, released by the FEO as part of preparations for upcoming electoral activities, sets Presiding Officer pay at $450, Assistant Presiding Officers at $330, Polling Day Workers at $220 and Polling Venue Assistants at $150. Pre-poll staff will receive daily rates between $81 and $120 depending on their roles.

Phase 1 of the recruitment drive runs from April 13 to May 9, 2026, the FEO said, inviting eligible Fijians to apply for a variety of temporary positions. The notice lists roles to be filled through this round of hiring, including presiding officers, assistant presiding officers, polling venue assistants and data entry operators, among other election-related posts. Successful applicants will be engaged on a temporary basis to support election operations.

The FEO emphasised that applicants must meet specific criteria and that all selected officials will undergo training before deployment. Pre-poll staff, who handle advance voting and related preparatory tasks, will be remunerated on a daily basis at the rates announced, reflecting the office’s effort to standardise pay across different duties and working patterns during the electoral period.

“The FEO is pleased to announce that recruitment of election officials will begin on 13 April 2026,” the notice stated, underscoring the office’s commitment to ensuring the smooth and efficient delivery of election services. The announcement makes clear the recruitment is part of a broader push to staff polling operations nationwide and to bolster administrative capacity ahead of forthcoming electoral events.

The latest recruitment move follows earlier institutional steps aimed at strengthening election preparedness in Fiji, including interagency arrangements on election security announced in 2025. By laying out clear pay scales and a defined recruitment timetable, the FEO is signalling an accelerated phase of operational planning after months of administrative groundwork.

Interested candidates are asked to submit applications within the Phase 1 period; the FEO will screen applicants against the stated eligibility criteria and provide training for those selected. The office said the temporary workforce will be a key component of delivering polling services and ensuring elections are conducted professionally and efficiently.
