The Republic of the Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) has received praise for its impressive rate of female participation in peacekeeping efforts, currently standing at 14%. This figure significantly surpasses the average of 9% across Troop Contributing Countries (TCCs). United Nations Under-Secretary-General for the Department of Field Support, Atul Khare, acknowledged the contributions of RFMF personnel during a recent visit to the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) base in Baghdad.
During his visit, Khare expressed deep gratitude for the commitment and professionalism displayed by Fijian troops, commending their dedicated service to global peacekeeping. He emphasized the remarkable achievement of the RFMF considering Fiji’s small population and encouraged the military to continue expanding its strategic presence within peacekeeping frameworks.
Lieutenant Colonel Timoci Naivalu, Commanding Officer of Task Force Papiloni, affirmed the unwavering readiness of the RFMF and Fiji to support international peace and security initiatives. This commitment reflects Fiji’s ongoing legacy in peacekeeping, which has seen the nation contribute forces to such missions for over two decades.
This new article ties in well with the previous articles on Fiji’s military contributions, as they highlight ongoing training programs and deployments that reinforce the RFMF’s role in international peacekeeping. For example, the RFMF recently celebrated the completion of the United Nations Military Observer Course (UNMOC) and has been proactive in ensuring the safety of its personnel amid regional tensions.
Fiji’s commitment to peacekeeping not only strengthens its international reputation but also enhances regional security through collaborative efforts with international partners. Such initiatives represent a hopeful outlook for global peace, as they underline the importance of diverse participation in military operations on behalf of humanitarian efforts.
