Farmers and exporters from Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Rewa convened in Nausori for a workshop dedicated to agriculture, aimed at strengthening collaboration across Fiji’s supply chains and enhancing export opportunities. This workshop is part of a week-long series organized by the New Zealand Ministry of Primary Industries, the Biosecurity Authority of Fiji, and the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, held at the Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) Conference Room.
Deputy Secretary for Agricultural Development, Dr. Tekini Nakidakida, asserted the need for unified efforts to uplift Fiji’s agriculture sector, urging stronger partnerships among farmers, exporters, regulators, and industry stakeholders to thrive in a competitive global environment. He stressed that “Strengthening the agricultural sector requires more than effort; it demands unity,” underlining that collaboration is vital for improving supply chains, broadening access to international markets, and adopting sustainable farming practices.
Key discussions during the session revolved around emerging market trends, modern agricultural technologies, sustainable farming methods, and critical trade and biosecurity regulations. Dr. Nakidakida encouraged participants to leverage this platform to exchange ideas and develop practical strategies for boosting production and exports.
This workshop series is among various initiatives reinforcing Fiji’s agricultural economy, reflecting a broader movement aimed at increasing domestic and international collaboration. Previous similar workshops and forums have revealed a growing appetite among Fijian farmers to engage with global markets and innovate their practices, signifying a hopeful trajectory for the sector.
By continuing to cultivate partnerships and increase knowledge exchange, Fiji’s agriculture sector stands poised to enhance its market readiness and export potential, opening the door to economic growth and improved livelihoods for local communities.
