A joint press release issued yesterday from the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) and the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association (FHTA) announced ongoing discussions regarding the drafting of the Employment Relations Bill.

Minister of Employment, Productivity and Workplace Relations, Agni Deo Singh, engaged with the FCEF in response to recent media concerns.

The talks focused on advancing the contributions to the draft Employment Relations Amendment (ERA) through a mutually agreed timeline for tripartite discussions set to begin next week.

Employer representatives expressed their eagerness to participate in this process, with all parties expected to act in good faith to meet the proposed deadlines. The aim is to finalize the draft for submission to the Solicitor General’s Office, the Government’s Development Subcommittee, and subsequently to Cabinet and Parliament, as outlined by the Ministry.

Following this, the Bill will undergo further review and public consultations conducted by the relevant Parliamentary Standing Committee.
