The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) is inviting feedback from stakeholders regarding the price control order on electricity charges that was established in 2022. This step reflects the FCCC’s dedication to transparency and inclusivity in regulatory processes.
The FCCC’s public notice encourages input from the public, industry stakeholders, and interested parties on the management of electricity pricing in Fiji. Following the evaluation of these submissions, the FCCC will make recommendations to the Minister based on the findings, in accordance with Section 40 of the FCCC Act 2010, to determine whether the order should be modified, extended, or revoked.
Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has proposed an increase in electricity charges to support its ambitious 10-year Power Development Plan, which requires significant investment estimated at $4.3 billion. This proposal, submitted to the FCCC in August 2022, aims to ensure adequate power capacity and reliable supply, essential for promoting economic growth and transitioning to renewable energy sources.
Previously, EFL’s initiatives highlighted the necessity of an adequate tariff framework to attract Independent Power Producers (IPPs) by offering competitive feed-in tariffs.
