The Education Ministry is taking proactive steps to build new secondary schools across the country following interest expressed by local communities. Education Minister Aseri Radrodro informed Parliament that feasibility studies are currently underway for these projects. Plans include constructing new schools in various locations, particularly in the West, including Namara in Yasawa, Vuniyasi and Nawaka in Nadi, and Namuka in Naweni, among others.
In addition to the new schools, the Minister announced that an agreement is being finalized with the United Arab Emirates Red Crescent Authority to fund duplex teachers’ quarters for institutions such as Ratu Simione, Lautoka Methodist, and Sigatoka Methodist colleges. This agreement is expected to be signed soon, with the goal of completing the project by the end of December.
Furthermore, the ministry is also re-evaluating the Kadavu Provincial School project, which faced delays due to previous contractual issues. To support these developments, a budget of $8.7 million has been designated for 2025-2026 to improve repairs, maintenance, and overall infrastructure nationwide.
These initiatives echo previous infrastructure projects announced by Minister Radrodro aimed at upgrading educational facilities, including recent announcements of improvements planned for schools across the Suva-Nausori area, which highlighted similar challenges such as overcrowding and outdated facilities. The government’s commitment to enhancing educational support underscores a positive shift in prioritizing the learning environment for students throughout Fiji.
Such developments not only reflect the government’s dedication to education but also signify hope for future generations of students, ensuring better learning conditions that foster academic and personal growth.
Positive sentiments surround these efforts, with the expectation that the upcoming projects will bring substantial improvements to the educational landscape in Fiji, aligning with their vision of providing every child with access to quality education in a safe environment.
