Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has announced that the well-being of teachers will be a primary focus in the upcoming national budget. He stated that proposals emphasizing teacher retention and support have already been submitted. “We want to ensure teachers are well taken care of. Their welfare is a top priority,” declared Radrodro.

In addition to addressing teacher welfare, the Ministry of Education is seeking funding to enhance school infrastructure, particularly for educational facilities that have suffered damage or are in a state of disrepair. Radrodro emphasized the urgent need to rebuild schools and improve the learning environment for students across the nation.

This year’s education budget aims to bolster key areas that directly support teachers and enhance overall school conditions. Radrodro also highlighted the significance of continuing Social Policy Assistance Programs that provide educational support to students and families, reinforcing the ministry’s commitment to holistic educational improvement.

As part of the 2025-2026 National Budget request, plans include funding for the construction of a new school and the reconstruction of two existing ones. This call for increased educational funding comes at a time when communities are advocating for better facilities and enhanced support for both teachers and students.

Mr. Radrodro noted that such investments are essential for the long-term growth of the education system in Fiji, stating, “We must act now to build a stronger future for our children.”

The emphasis on improving teacher welfare, alongside physical infrastructure, signifies a well-rounded approach to enhancing the educational landscape in Fiji. This is a hopeful signal that the government is prioritizing education as a vital component of national development, poised to create a more robust environment conducive to learning.

By actively addressing both teacher well-being and educational facilities, there is optimism that these initiatives will culminate in a more effective education system, benefiting both educators and students alike.
