The Fijian government is prioritizing the private sector as it seeks to revitalize the national economy. Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Professor Biman Prasad highlighted this commitment during his speech at the Nadi Chamber of Commerce Business Forum. He emphasized that the country’s economic recovery and growth heavily rely on the leadership and involvement of businesses.

Professor Prasad stated, “The private sector holds immense wisdom, knowledge, and experience that are vital to shaping sound economic policy and driving nation-building efforts.” To ensure effective collaboration, the government has intensified its consultations with business leaders, utilizing their insights to inform the National Development Plan as well as the upcoming 2025–2026 National Budget.

The Coalition Government is also focused on streamlining processes through reducing bureaucratic barriers to facilitate public service delivery and ensuring that essential national projects are realized. Professor Prasad encouraged businesses to actively engage with the government to drive meaningful reforms and tangible results, reinforcing the belief that sustained collaboration will yield significant benefits for all parties involved.

This proactive approach is reflected in previous remarks made by Professor Prasad, where he outlined the government’s strategy to establish a sustainable economy capable of withstanding global economic pressures. His administration has put forward various initiatives aimed at bolstering fiscal discipline, investing in key sectors such as education, health, and infrastructure to enhance productivity and create jobs, while also addressing concerns regarding the cost of living and ensuring economic resilience.

As Fiji navigates its path towards recovery, the emphasis on private sector engagement presents a hopeful outlook, fostering a collaborative environment that promises to usher in a more prosperous future for all Fijians. The potential for dynamic growth and development is encouraging, particularly as the government and private sector work hand in hand to achieve shared goals and improve the overall wellbeing of the nation.
