The Fijian government is set to expand its e-ticketing service by onboarding Digicel Fiji, as confirmed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Cooperatives, MSMEs, and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica. He emphasized that while Vodafone was initially awarded the tender for the e-ticketing system, integrating additional platforms such as Digicel and SOLE is vital for enhancing payment options.
Kamikamica stated that the rollout of QR code payments has been completed, paving the way for this expanded integration. This move aims to provide more alternatives for commuters and address the growing demand for multiple payment methods within the public transport system.
Previously, the government faced criticism regarding the e-ticketing rollout, with users reporting connectivity issues and challenges related to the transition. However, with continued collaboration among telecommunications providers, bus companies, and government officials, there is optimism that the improvements will lead to a more seamless and user-friendly experience for all Fijians.
The initiative is expected to foster a more adaptable public transport environment, ensuring that various stakeholders work together to meet the needs of the community. As enhancements are implemented, the broader hope is for a transformation of Fiji’s transportation sector that aligns with modern technology and better service delivery.
