The Commissioner of Police, Rusiate Tudravu, has announced that he has received the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report from Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, following their meeting this morning. Tudravu revealed that a dedicated team from the Criminal Investigations Department will analyze the report and provide recommendations on the next steps for investigation based on its findings.

Prime Minister Rabuka previously indicated that relevant government agencies would undertake necessary investigations related to the report’s findings and recommendations. The COI report includes allegations directed at the former Commissioner of the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC), Barbara Malimali, and these will specifically be examined by the police.

This announcement comes as part of ongoing efforts to bolster public trust in government institutions and ensure accountability in high-level appointments. The findings of the COI are expected to inform future reforms aimed at enhancing transparency and ethical standards within Fiji’s public service framework.

As previously stated by Rabuka, “While we cannot erase what has occurred, we can ensure that it does not happen again.” This sentiment underscores the importance of the inquiry as a pivotal step in addressing past grievances and fostering a more accountable system moving forward.

With national interest surrounding these developments, there is collective hope that the investigation will lead to significant reforms in governance, aimed at restoring confidence in public institutions and enhancing the ethical landscape of Fiji’s administration.
