The Fijian community in Samoa welcomed Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. Rabuka expressed gratitude towards the Fijian diaspora and emphasized the urgent need to tackle climate change, especially for Pacific Island nations at risk of rising sea levels, particularly Tuvalu.

He underscored the vital role of events like the Conference of the Parties (COP) in addressing the impacts of climate change and providing opportunities for affected countries to seek international aid. Rabuka also reflected on the Earth Summit in Rio in 1992, which led to the creation of the COP.

Fiji’s Prime Minister highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing these challenges and stressed the necessity of maintaining strong relationships among nations.
