FIJI Football Association (FFA) CEO Mohammed Yusuf has announced a significant update regarding player transfers from district clubs to the Bula FC program, stating that these players will not be eligible for the upcoming June transfer window. In a bid to protect the interests of the 20 local clubs that have heavily invested in player development, Yusuf explained that these athletes must return to their original districts to fulfill their remaining contracts.

This policy reflects the FFA’s commitment to maintaining legality and fairness within Fiji’s evolving football landscape. With the recent influx of players transitioning from amateur to professional status, Yusuf acknowledged that this year presents unique challenges in managing player movements, particularly concerning transfer regulations.

Yusuf noted that there are approximately 33 players who have made the leap from amateur to professional, marking a pivotal shift for local football. The FFA is set to finalize necessary amendments to its regulations during the upcoming board meeting, ensuring compliance with the new transfer policies and the transition process back to amateur status once the Pro League concludes.

As the landscape of Fijian football continues to evolve, Yusuf remains optimistic about the future. He envisions a scenario where more local players could fully commit to becoming professionals within the OFC Pro League framework.

Looking ahead, he mentioned the potential for these athletes to engage not only in playing but also in community involvement and coaching initiatives through Bula FC. The establishment of Bula FC and the OFC Pro League marks a transformative era for football in Fiji, indicating a serious effort to professionalize the sport while also valuing and preserving the foundational role of district clubs in nurturing local talent.
