Fiji’s Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, Pio Tikoduadua, participated in the 2025 United Nations Peacekeeping Ministerial Meeting in Berlin, Germany. He was accompanied by Brigadier General Manoa Gadai, the Commander Joint Task Force Command, and Colonel Siliva Vananalagi, the Military and Police Advisor at Fiji’s Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.
The event was opened by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, highlighting its global significance. During the meeting, Minister Tikoduadua and his delegation engaged in several bilateral discussions with key stakeholders, including UN officials and international defense counterparts from countries like Japan, New Zealand, and the USA. These discussions aim to strengthen international cooperation in peacekeeping efforts.
In addition to the high-level meetings, Germany contributed United Nations peacekeeping equipment to support Fiji’s female peacekeepers deployed in various missions, underlining the international community’s appreciation for Fiji’s contributions to global peace and its commitment to gender equity within the armed forces.
Tikoduadua’s participation in this meeting follows his 42-day overseas mission to connect with Fijian troops stationed in critical locations, including the Golan Heights and Jerusalem. This mission reflects a dedication to addressing the needs of Fijian peacekeepers and enhancing support, especially for female military personnel.
This initiative represents a positive step forward for Fiji in reinforcing its role in international peacekeeping. It not only showcases the nation’s ongoing commitment to enhancing military capabilities but also emphasizes the importance of supporting and empowering women in defense roles, aligning with global movements towards gender inclusivity. The involvement of Minister Tikoduadua and his team in these critical dialogues promises a hopeful outlook for further collaborative efforts in promoting peace and security globally.
