The Fiji Police Force has successfully concluded the destruction of 4.1 tonnes of methamphetamine, an operation carried out with precision and security at the Dignified Crematorium. This significant effort was initiated under a High Court order issued on December 13, 2024, and underscores Fiji’s commitment to combating drug trafficking and enhancing public safety.

The destruction method employed, vaporization, is recognized globally as an effective and safe approach for disposing of hazardous substances. Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Crime, Mesake Waqa, emphasized that extensive consultations took place with stakeholders including military personnel and international law enforcement agencies from Australia and New Zealand. This collaboration ensured that the destruction process adhered to health and environmental regulations.

To enhance transparency and accountability, representatives of the defendants were allowed to observe the operation under strict security measures. Comprehensive details about the destruction process are expected to be shared with the public after the operation, reinforcing the commitment to transparency.

This operation is a vital move in removing dangerous drugs from the community and showcases the collaborative efforts of various agencies in addressing drug-related crimes in Fiji. The emphasis on community engagement and transparency instills hope for a safer future, reflecting progress in ongoing initiatives to tackle the drug crisis. Authorities continue to prioritize public safety, working diligently to promote health and well-being within the community, demonstrating a collective resolve in the fight against drugs.
