Infrastructure projects in Fiji, valued at over $1 billion, are currently underway, highlighting the resilience and growth of the country’s construction sector. This was announced by Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad at the Fiji Association of Architects awards night in Suva last Friday.

During the event, Prof Prasad emphasized that investment in infrastructure extends beyond the physical structures like roads and buildings, representing a significant opportunity for community development, business expansion, and overall economic growth. He noted that robust infrastructure is essential for creating economic opportunities that ultimately improve the quality of life for all Fijians.

The minister reflected on the government’s decisive measures taken to improve Fiji’s financial situation. He reported an optimistic revision of the country’s economic growth forecast from 2.8 percent to 3.8 percent, with a potential to reach 4 percent due to positive trends in tourism, which has grown by approximately 6.5 percent from the previous year.

The minister further highlighted that remittances have remained strong, and business lending has seen a remarkable growth of about 19.4 percent, signaling restored confidence in the economy. This favorable economic climate not only benefits architects but also supports the broader construction industry.

Additionally, Prof Prasad discussed an upcoming investment of around $650 million over the next three to four years as part of a comprehensive review and reform of Fiji’s public health facilities, as recommended by the World Bank. This investment is poised to create more opportunities for investors and industry professionals.

In summary, Fiji is witnessing significant infrastructure growth that not only promises economic improvement but also aims to enhance the wellbeing of its citizens. The commitment to development projects reflects a hopeful trajectory for the nation, paving the way for sustainable progress and community prosperity.
