Preparations are in full swing for Basketball Fiji as they gear up for the Pacific Mini Games set to take place in Palau this July. Following trials in September of last year, a dedicated training squad has been selected and has been working hard in the months leading up to the event.

William Peter, the interim chief operating officer of Basketball Fiji, reported that training sessions will begin to accelerate from next month, coinciding with local basketball associations launching their competitive seasons. This alignment is expected to enhance their preparation as they aim for success in the under-23 3×3 basketball format, described by Peter as similar in nature to 7s rugby.

In a promising update, Peter noted that Fiji’s basketball team previously claimed a gold medal at the Pacific Games two years ago in the Solomon Islands, and he is optimistic about their potential to replicate that success at the Mini Games.

The Pacific Mini Games will be hosted in Palau from July 25 to August 4. This presents a wonderful opportunity not only for the athletes to demonstrate their skills but also for basketball in Fiji to gain recognition on an international platform.

Encouragingly, similar commitment is seen across sports in Fiji, as coaches and associations emphasize rigorous training and preparation in anticipation of the games. This spirit of dedication and support bodes well for Fijian athletes as they prepare to make their mark at the Mini Games.

In summary, Basketball Fiji’s comprehensive training efforts combined with the thrilling opportunity of international competition sets a hopeful tone for their upcoming performance. Not just a chance for personal achievement, these games symbolize Fiji’s collective ambition to rise in the world of sports.
