Asgar Optometrist has been a beacon of eye care excellence in Fiji since its inception in 1957. Established by Dr. Asad Ali Asgar, the visionary organization was created with the primary goal of providing high-quality and accessible eye care to every Fijian. The family legacy continued with Mr. Rahat Ali Asgar, who assumed management responsibilities in 1965 after the passing of his brother, bringing professionalism and innovation to a field that previously lacked modern optical services.

One of the company’s groundbreaking achievements was the introduction of in-house lens manufacturing in Fiji, which revolutionized the local optical industry. This initiative not only decreased reliance on international suppliers but also significantly reduced waiting times and costs for customers, ensuring that quality eye care became more affordable and accessible.

A notable transformation began in 2021 with the appointment of Mr. Vidhya Lakhan as General Manager. Under his leadership, the company has embarked on a modernization journey across its four branches located in Ba, Lautoka, Nadi, and Suva. The relocation of their west branches to more accessible locations, coupled with a contemporary redesign, has further enhanced the customer experience.

Mr. Lakhan spearheaded a crucial technological overhaul by investing over FJD 500,000 in cutting-edge lens manufacturing systems from Coburn Technologies, a global leader in optical equipment. This substantial investment has significantly improved the company’s production capabilities, resulting in superior-quality lenses, quicker turnaround times, and precise manufacturing results. Customers now enjoy greater efficiency and accuracy in their prescriptions, further solidifying Asgar Optometrist’s reputation as a leader in the optical industry.

Emphasizing the importance of improving eye care services for the Fijian community, Mr. Lakhan stated, “We have spent close to a million dollars modernizing all our clinics. We have invested heavily in replacing outdated equipment with state-of-the-art machines from renowned suppliers. Currently, we employ four highly qualified optometrists from India and Nepal, with plans to welcome a fifth optometrist in the coming year to elevate our eye care services even further.”

From its modest beginnings to its present state as a tech-savvy provider of optical care, Asgar Optometrist remains committed to enhancing the quality of life for all Fijians through dedicated service and innovation.
