Hill is the proud owner of Hot Glass Fiji and is one of ten talented artists participating in the “Alchemy” art exhibition at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva. This special event, which began on Thursday, highlights the transformation of raw materials into beautiful art, running until tomorrow.
The exhibition was born from a desire to honor the unique qualities of materials like ink, clay, glass, sand, metal, and wood, showcasing their potential as they evolve into extraordinary art pieces. Alice, who has her studio located in Sigatoka, created stunning works for this exhibition, drawing inspiration from the vibrant underwater life of Fiji.
Alice’s unique art pieces, such as her Emperor and Tang designs, stand out due to their intricate patterns, showcasing her exceptional glassblowing skills. She highlighted the harmonious blend of smoothness on the inside and a textured, undulating surface on the outside, demonstrating her artistic approach.
Originally from the UK, Alice transitioned from a scuba diving business to bring the artistry of glassblowing to Fiji, training five local artisans from Korotogo Village. She emphasized the patience and dedication required to master glassblowing, noting that while the creation process can be swift, it is built on years of experience and skill.
