The Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF) is set to participate in a transformative $250 million tourism project, which will be officially announced today. This initiative, hailed as a significant milestone for Fiji, is expected to create around 500 jobs and contribute approximately $26 million to the national economy.

Key partners in this ambitious project include BSP Bank and the Australian real estate company Realcorp, led by Bob Lowres, who is well-regarded for his previous development work at Naisoso Island. Realcorp has reported a strong market interest ahead of the announcement, having secured $181 million in sales, and expresses optimism about selling out the entire project by its anticipated completion date in late 2026.

FNPF has steadily increased its commitment to the tourism sector in recent years, owning several major hotels and acquiring a 30% stake in Fiji Airways during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to its recent 2024 annual report, FNPF’s investments in hotels have yielded favorable returns as tourism activities rebound, with increased occupancy rates and revenue from properties such as the InterContinental Fiji Resort & Spa and the Fiji Marriott Resort at Momi Bay. With assets exceeding $10 billion, FNPF is recognized as one of the largest property owners in Fiji, positioning it as a crucial player in fostering economic growth and job creation in the tourism industry.

The positive projections surrounding this project align with government initiatives aimed at promoting local and international investments, ensuring that Fiji remains an appealing destination for investors. As the tourism sector continues its recovery, this initiative represents a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s economic future, enhancing its status as a prime tourist destination.

In summary, this project is set to contribute significantly to Fiji’s economy, creating jobs and showcasing the potential for ongoing growth within the tourism sector, reflecting the nation’s commitment to fostering a resilient and prosperous future.
