Sixteen-year-old Maika Dau has made headlines by becoming the youngest professional football player in Fiji after signing with Bula FC for the inaugural 2026 OFC Professional League season. This impressive achievement comes shortly after Dau captained Fiji’s team at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, a role that showcased his ability to perform under pressure on an international stage.
Dau’s football journey began at a young age, nurtured by his father, former Rewa midfielder Lorima Dau. He often accompanied his father to district training sessions, where his passion for the game took root. By the time he reached year nine, he was already showcasing his talent with Nasinu’s U-19 team, eventually earning a spot on the Fiji U-15 squad.
His rapid ascent in the sport continued as, a year later, he made his debut with Nasinu’s senior district side while also representing Fiji at the U-16 level. His leadership qualities shone through when he captained Fiji at the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship, where his standout performances played a crucial role in securing the team’s qualification for the FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Dau’s exceptional talents highlight a promising future for football in Fiji, as he prepares to take on the professional ranks and inspire younger players in his country.
