The Fijiana 7s team has been intensively training for the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles, which kicks off this weekend. Arriving in LA two weeks prior to the tournament allows the team to adjust to the climate while working diligently to conclude the season successfully.

Head coach Richard Walker reported that the preparations are progressing well, mentioning, “We landed in LA about a week ago… The girls are doing great… We bought 13 players just in case anything happens in training.” This depth in the squad provides the team with flexibility and options as they head into the championship.

In addition to acclimatizing, the Fijiana has been concentrating on addressing weaknesses identified during their last tournament in Hong Kong. The tournament will open with Fiji facing strong competitors, including Australia, France, and the USA.

Previously, the Fijiana secured their place in this championship by finishing seventh in the overall series, demonstrating growth and resilience throughout the competition. This tournament not only represents a critical opportunity for the Fijiana to showcase their skills but also signifies progress in the development of women’s rugby in Fiji, highlighting their potential for future success.

The anticipation surrounding the championship is palpable, as both the Fijiana and their male counterparts prepare to represent Fijian rugby on a grand stage. With a spirit of determination and teamwork, the Fijiana 7s aim to inspire fans and future athletes alike with their performance in Los Angeles.

This championship weekend promises to showcase the best of Fijian talent and further the growth of rugby globally, reflecting a hopeful outlook for the future of the sport in Fiji.
