The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team is gearing up for the upcoming HSBC Perth 7s tournament, scheduled for January 24-26. Facing a significant change, the team features only six members from the previous squad, which presents both a challenge and an opportunity to fuse experienced players with fresh talent.

The Fijiana 7s are currently positioned 11th in the World Series and are striving to break into the top eight, a crucial milestone that not only secures them a spot in the Los Angeles 7s, a premier World Championship event in May, but also guards against relegation in the 2026 season.

Verenaisi Ditatuvu, a 25-year-old forward from Drekeniwai, Cakaudrove, is one of the returning players committed to leading the team through this transition. “Training has been tough with many new girls, but we’re all committed to improving our position,” Ditatuvu remarked. She recognizes the necessity for improvement in key aspects like scrums and lineouts, alongside enhancing team fitness.

Her previous international experience, including participating in a 10s tournament in the USA, adds to her leadership role. “It was my first time overseas and a great experience,” she shared, emphasizing the positive impact of her journey on her growth as a player.

With a determined focus on collaboration and resilience, Ditatuvu and her teammates are prepared to face the challenges ahead as they aim for a coveted place in the top eight.

This developmental phase for the Fijiana 7s not only showcases the team’s commitment to growth and performance but also highlights the potential of new talent to shine on the international stage. Their determination is a testament to the spirit of resilience and teamwork in sports.
