Seven candidates have been shortlisted for the prestigious position of head coach for the Fijiana 7s team, following a thorough application process that attracted 34 applicants. Currently, the role is temporarily filled by acting coach Timoci Volavola, who was assigned to the position after the contract of former coach Saiasi Fuli was not renewed last December.

Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) chief executive Rovereto Nayacalevu stated that like the recruitment process for the Fijiana 15s team, they are waiting for necessary clarifications regarding work permits for the candidates. The selection process is being undertaken by a dedicated panel within the FRU, consisting of key figures from the organization.

Nayacalevu emphasized the importance of a transparent and merit-based recruitment process, aimed at ensuring the best candidate is chosen to lead a women’s program that has faced challenges in recent times. He noted that it is critical to reset the program’s structure and direction, showcasing a commitment to improving the performance of the Fijiana 7s team.

This recruitment marks a significant step towards revitalizing the Fijiana 7s program and aligns with the FRU’s goals of enhancing women’s rugby in Fiji. With a diligent panel focused on finding a capable leader, there is hope for a positive turnaround for the team’s future.
