Parisha Singh, the daughter of Pranil Singh, the Acting CEO of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission, has made history by becoming the first Fijian international student to receive the NSW International Student Leadership Award. This prestigious honor, recognizing outstanding leadership and academic accomplishments, was bestowed upon her on March 11, 2025.

Parisha’s educational journey began at Nehru Memorial Primary School in Suva and continued at Jai Narayan College before she moved to Sydney. There, she completed her senior secondary studies at John Edmondson High School in Liverpool. Currently, she is pursuing her dream of becoming a doctor as a medical student at the University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney.

Her exceptional leadership skills and academic performance led to her nomination for the award by John Edmondson High School, where she outshone over 4,000 international students to secure her spot as one of the top six finalists, ultimately winning the coveted award.

During her acceptance speech, Parisha expressed heartfelt gratitude towards her parents, especially her father, whom she cites as her greatest inspiration. She acknowledged the values of resilience, determination, and hard work instilled in her by her family, including her mother Kaushalia Singh, who has been a significant source of strength and support.

“This award is not just mine—it belongs to my parents, family, and everyone who has believed in me and supported my journey,” Parisha said, also extending special thanks to her Aunty Maya Shandil who helped her adapt to life in Sydney.

Parisha’s achievement serves as a proud moment not only for her family but also for Fiji, inspiring other aspiring students and exemplifying the profound impact of determination, family support, and perseverance in the pursuit of academic excellence. Her story reflects the hope that with the right mindset and backing from loved ones, one can break barriers and realize their dreams effectively.
