Another Fijian player, Ponipate Loganimasi, has officially joined the inaugural First Nations and Pasifika XV team, poised to compete against the British & Irish Lions next Tuesday. Loganimasi is now the third member from the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua and Flying Fijians to join the squad, joining fellow teammates Mesake Doge and Mesake Vocevoce.
Following a remarkable debut season in the 2025 Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific, where he played 12 matches and scored six tries, Loganimasi’s selection is a significant achievement in his rugby career. Fijian Drua’s General Manager Rugby, Baden Stephenson, emphasized Loganimasi’s impressive season, stating that this opportunity will allow him to showcase his skills on a major platform. He remarked, “Poni had a great Super Rugby season, so this is another brilliant opportunity for him to represent his family, club, and country with pride.”
In addition to Loganimasi, the First Nations & Pasifika XV squad includes fellow Fijians Seru Uru from the Reds, Brumbies prop Lington Ieli, and Issak Fines-Leleiwasa from the Western Force. The highly anticipated match is scheduled to kick off at 9:45 PM FJT at the Marvel Stadium in Naarm, Melbourne.
This event not only highlights the growing recognition of Fijian talent in rugby but also serves to inspire aspiring athletes across the Pacific Islands. As the match approaches, excitement builds around Loganimasi and his teammates, reflecting the hope and potential that Fijian rugby continues to embody on the international stage. The forthcoming match is poised to be a cultural celebration and a testament to the talents emerging from the Pacific, reinforcing unity and pride within the community.
