The Fijian Drua Women’s rugby team is set to renew its rivalry with the NSW Waratahs in a highly anticipated rematch at Sydney’s Allianz Stadium as the Super Rugby Women’s competition kicks off. Head coach Ifereimi Rawaqa has put together a formidable lineup for the opening match of the 2025 season.
Captain Vika Matarugu, a seasoned player, will lead a team that features six debutants, promising a blend of experience and youth. Notable newcomers include Fijiana representatives Alfreda Fisher, Josivini Naihamu, and Alowesi Nakoci, who are set to make their mark alongside established players like Vitalina Naikore and Kolora Lomani.
In the starting 15, Matarugu will play at tighthead prop, with Salanieta Nabuli in the loosehead position and Keleni Marawa as hooker. The middle row will see Mereoni Nakesa partnering with Asinate Serevi, while Alfreda Fisher and Salaseini Railumu will occupy the flanker positions, with former captain Karalaini Naisewa at number 8.
The backline will see Kolora Lomani returning at halfback alongside flyhalf Salanieta Kinita. Nakoci will feature on the left wing, and Repeka Tove will play on the right, with Naihamu and vice-captain Naikore manning the inside and outside centre positions respectively. Luisa Tisolo rounds out the starting line-up at fullback.
On the bench, newcomer Isabella Koi will provide backup at hooker, supported by Loraini Senivutu and Ana Korovata in the prop positions. Adivitaloga will cover the locks, and Evivi Senikarivi will return as halfback.
