Fijian Drua Welcomes Rugby Star Temo Mayanavanua for Future Glory!

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua has made an exciting addition to their roster by signing Flying Fijians and Northampton Saints lock Temo Mayanavanua on a two-year deal. Mayanavanua, who will be available for the Drua starting in the 2026 season, will join the team following the completion of his national duties.

At 27 years old, Mayanavanua has had an impressive rugby career thus far. After debuting for the Flying Fijians in 2020 against Georgia, he has earned 25 caps for the national team. He joined the Northampton Saints after the 2023 Rugby World Cup and has since made 35 appearances, scoring one try during his tenure with the English club.

Prior to his time at the Saints, Mayanavanua played three seasons with Northland in New Zealand, followed by a spell at Lyon in France. His diverse experiences across several rugby leagues have provided him with a solid foundation that he will bring to the Drua.

Mayanavanua’s addition is part of a broader trend of Fijian players returning home to bolster local rugby teams. This movement not only strengthens clubs like the Fijian Drua but also serves to inspire aspiring rugby players across Fiji. Recent signings of notable players, including those moving from overseas clubs back to Fiji, showcase a commitment to developing the sport domestically.

As the Fijian Drua prepares for the upcoming Super Rugby season, the inclusion of Mayanavanua and other returning players is a hopeful sign for the future of Fijian rugby. Fans can look forward to a season filled with skilled athletes who share a deep connection to their roots, igniting a fresh wave of enthusiasm and pride for rugby in Fiji.
