Fijian Drua is making significant strides in preparation for the upcoming seasons by re-signing three essential players, reinforcing the club’s long-term vision. The team has confirmed that prop Haereiti Hetet, winger Taniela Rakuro, and promising talent Isikeli Rabitu will remain with the Drua, strengthening their squad as they look ahead to future campaigns in the Super Rugby Pacific competition.
Haereiti Hetet, a foundational member of the Drua since its inaugural season in 2022, has extended his contract until the end of the 2027 season. With 39 appearances and one try to his name for the Drua, Hetet has also represented the Flying Fijians 24 times and participated in the Rugby World Cup between 2020 and 2025. Head Coach Glen Jackson hailed the re-signing as a noteworthy achievement for the club, emphasizing Hetet’s vital role within the team.
Expressing his gratitude, Hetet stated, “I’m very grateful and I enjoy my time here at the Drua. With new signings and players returning home for the first time, and the way we’re trying to play, I want to thank the coaches and management for trusting me to stay on.”
Isikeli Rabitu and Taniela Rakuro have also committed to the club, signing on for an additional two seasons until the end of 2028. Rabitu, who made his debut in 2024, is quickly becoming a standout young talent, having scored four tries in 14 appearances after transitioning from the Deans competition and representing Fiji Under 20 in 2022. Jackson lauded him as “one of the brightest young talents” he has encountered and an integral part of the Drua’s future.
Rabitu attributed his success to divine guidance and the support from the club’s management. “I thank the Almighty God for guiding me throughout my rugby career. I’m also grateful to the Drua management and coaching staff for their trust and for extending my contract. I feel truly blessed to continue my journey with the Drua,” he said.
Taniela Rakuro, an explosive winger from Vusama in Nadroga, has emerged as a key player, being the Drua’s second-highest try scorer with nine tries. He debuted in 2023 and has made 23 appearances since, earning five Test caps for the Flying Fijians after his debut in the 2025 Pacific Nations Cup. He expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to continue with the Drua, showing gratitude to the management for their belief in his abilities.
With a blend of experience, youthful talent, and powerful finishing capabilities secured, the Drua has positioned itself strongly for future successes in the Super Rugby Pacific. As they prepare to face off against the Waratahs this Friday at 8:35 PM, the team and its supporters are filled with hope and anticipation for what lies ahead.
