The Fijian Drua rugby team has officially arrived in Kadavu for a week-long pre-season training camp. They have established their base at Namalata Village, the home of Nacanieli Cawanibuka, the team’s Head of Athletic Performance.

As part of their immersion into the local culture, the Drua will start their camp with traditional ceremonies honoring the village chief, followed by their first training session set for this afternoon. Lock forward Suliasi Vukaokalo expressed anticipation for the upcoming week, highlighting the positive impact of changes in environment.

“It’s going to be an exciting camp for us,” Vukaokalo stated. He noted how beneficial it is to step out of their comfort zone and into a setting free from distractions, allowing the team to concentrate fully on their training. The Drua are eager to maximize their time together before their upcoming holiday break. In addition to their training, they are scheduled to compete in an exhibition match against the Kadavu Rugby Union team on Thursday.

This pre-season camp not only provides a chance for the players to strengthen their skills but also serves as a wonderful opportunity for the team to connect with the local community, showcasing the spirit of rugby and bringing the game closer to the hearts of the people in Kadavu.

Overall, the Drua’s commitment to their preparation and community engagement is commendable, as they look to build a strong foundation for the upcoming season.
