Margaret Reid Rounds, Chair of the NGO Coalition, has reported that the Fiji Wellness Coalition is garnering positive reactions from both the public and government entities. The coalition aims to create an inclusive environment where various groups can join forces to provide mutual support and collaboration.
Looking ahead, the coalition’s primary objective in the upcoming years will be focused on enhancing information sharing and outreach efforts, particularly towards those directly affected by health issues. Rounds emphasized the importance of informing and involving communities in wellness initiatives, highlighting that connecting groups such as stroke survivors with organizations like Diabetes Fiji is essential for fostering comprehensive community support.
With Fiji’s health system currently under strain, there is an urgent call to not only assist the Ministry of Health but also to enable collective action among NGOs and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). Rounds noted that the Government has acknowledged the importance of a unified approach, and the coalition is actively engaging with various government sectors, with support from the Ministry of Health. This partnership is seen as a promising step towards strengthening collaborative efforts.
The Fiji Wellness Coalition seeks to act as a liaison, facilitating communication and cooperation between government entities and communities through its network of CSOs, NGOs, and other coalition partners. This initiative is poised to create a positive impact on public health by ensuring that vital resources and information reach those who need them most, fostering a healthier future for all Fijians.
