A new 30-seater catamaran, named Gosal Cruisers, is set to launch at the Grand Eastern Hotel in Labasa, Fiji, aimed at enhancing local tourism and commerce on Vanua Levu, the nation’s second-largest island. This vessel, valued at $1 million, recently arrived from China and is the first of its kind for the area.

Charan Jeath Singh, a prominent business leader and Sugar minister, stated that the introduction of this catamaran will stimulate activity in local communities, allowing residents to provide food and cultural items, which will in turn support their livelihoods. Singh referred to the launch as an “early Christmas present” for the people of Vanua Levu, with the service scheduled to begin on December 20, just in time for the holiday season.

Gosal Cruisers will operate as a day cruise vessel, departing from the Grand Eastern Hotel jetty daily at 9:30 AM. Passengers can enjoy sightseeing and cultural exchanges at various destinations, including Kia, Mali, Druadrua, Vorovoro, Savusavu, and other nearby islands. The vessel has a cruising speed of approximately 35 knots and accommodates a crew of three.

This new development promises to boost the local economy by attracting tourists and providing opportunities for cultural engagement. It underscores efforts to promote sustainable tourism and highlight the beauty of Fiji’s natural landscapes while creating job opportunities within the community.

In summary, the Gosal Cruisers catamaran marks a significant advancement for tourism on Vanua Levu, setting the stage for economic growth and cultural exchange in the region. The initiative brings hope and a spirit of celebration for the upcoming holiday season.
