Fiji Welcomes First International Tourists of 2025!

The cruise ship Queen Elizabeth made history by bringing the first group of international tourists to Fiji for 2025, as it docked at Suva Port yesterday. The voyage began in Sydney, Australia, and primarily transported Australian visitors to the beautiful shores of Fiji.

The ship’s journey included stops at Lifou in New Caledonia and Luganville in Vanuatu; however, a planned stop in Port Vila was canceled due to the port’s closure. During the cruise, there was an onboard emergency that necessitated a helicopter evacuation, leading to some alterations in the ship’s schedule.

One enthusiastic tourist on board shared their memorable experience of ringing in the New Year in Fiji, stating, “We arrived in Lautoka yesterday and spent New Year’s there. It was amazing! Something I’ll never forget.” The tourist also expressed excitement for their brief time in Suva, saying, “We’re only in Suva for a day, but we’re making the most of it. The cultural centers are incredible. It’s a pity we’re leaving tonight, but Fiji has been such a wonderful start to the year.”

The arrival of the Queen Elizabeth marks the start of an anticipated busy season for Fiji’s tourism industry, bringing hope for revitalization in the wake of past challenges.

This promising beginning could signify the return of travel enthusiasm and economic recovery in Fiji, as the influx of international visitors is likely to bolster local businesses and showcase the unique cultural offerings of the islands.
