Weather Dispatch
Issued from the Crystal Ball Headquarters at the crack of dawn on Monday the 5th of January 2026
Situation Update: Our friendly neighborhood low pressure system is hanging out over the Fiji group, slowly moving westward like it’s in no rush to reach its destination. It continues to blow a bit of that refreshing northeast to southeast wind, stirring up a healthy dose of moisture across the islands.
Forecast until the stroke of midnight:
Get ready for occasional showers that might get a bit too enthusiastic at times – especially over Moala and the central and southern Lau groups, where thunderstorms might throw a party!
Expect cloudy periods with showers and afternoon thunderstorms across Cakaudrove, Southern Bua, Taveuni, and their smaller island friends, along with the Yasawa, Lomaiviti, and northern Lau groups. Meanwhile, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Kadavu, and relatives can expect similar delights.
Watch out for those sneaky afternoon or evening showers elsewhere because they might bring in a few thunderclaps and heavy downpours. Persistent heavy rainfall could even lead to flash flooding in those lovable low-lying areas.
Winds will be moderate, sticking to a southeast to northeast routine, and might decide to freshen up when least expected. Seas? A little sassy—moderate to rough.
Outlook for Tuesday: Looks like the clouds are inviting some friends over for more showers and isolated heavy downpours, especially over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and their tiny companions. The usual suspects—Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Lau, Lomaiviti, and Yasawa groups—will join the party with afternoon or evening showers.
Winds? Yep, moderate and fresh. Seas? Moderate to rough. You might want to avoid a waltz on those waters!
