Weather Alert: Christmas 2025 Edition

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 10:45 AM on this wonderful Thursday.

Here’s the scoop, folks! There’s a somewhat lazy trough of low pressure meandering just to the north of us, contemplating life decisions. This essentially means we’re in for a few days of cloud cover and showers in the Northern Division. Let’s hope it makes up its mind soon, or at least sends us some motivational vibes!

Meanwhile, we’re enjoying a delightful southeasterly wind flow, which is great because it’s the one that doesn’t surprise you with a sudden gust while you’re sipping your morning coffee!

Now, if you’re within the territory of the Fiji group, prepare yourself for cloudy periods and scattered showers, especially if you’re in Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, Eastern Macuata, Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, and some of our smaller islands, which we like to call our secret hideaways. Keep an umbrella handy because isolated heavy showers and the occasional rumbling thunder could be planning a visit, especially in the northern Division.

Elsewhere, it should be relatively fine, with perhaps a sneaky afternoon or evening shower trying to crash your outdoor plans.

Moderate to fresh southeasterly winds will keep things breezy – but watch out during heavy downpours; things might get gusty! Oh, and if you’re feeling adventurous, prepare for moderate to rough seas.

What’s on the horizon for Saturday? More of the same cloudy periods accompanied by showers in the usual spots, while the sun tries its best to shine elsewhere, only to be thwarted by those pesky afternoon showers.

Here’s a quick local breakdown:

– Navua / Suva / Nausori: Cloudy with some showers. Max: 31 today and just as hot tomorrow.
– Natadradave/Korovou: Cloudy but don’t worry, you have the same high of 31 going strong!
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: A friendly mix of fine with a chance of afternoon showers (and possibly a dramatic thunderstorm cameo).
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Enjoy a fine day with just a few sneaky showers. You’re looking at a delightful 32!
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Fine as well, with a cameo by those sneaky afternoon showers; aiming for a toasty 33 today!
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Fine with a side of afternoon showers.
– Labasa: Prepare for cloud cover with possible heavy downpours and some thunder for dramatic effect.
– Savusavu: Similar to Labasa, with a dash of thunder to ramp up the excitement.
– All areas in context: Chances are, if you’re near clouds, expect some showers.

For our friends in Rotuma, it looks like a trough of low pressure has claimed you as its new favorite spot – get ready for occasional showers and maybe a few thunderstorms crashing your beach party. Maxing out at a cozy 30 today, you might need an umbrella for your beach towel!

So there you have it—just another day in paradise! Enjoy the weather, regardless of what mood it decides to take today!
