Weather Update: Hold Onto Your Hats!

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 10:45 am on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

Attention, folks! We’ve got a strong wind warning sweeping through the land areas of the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. So if your kite-flying plans were in the works, you might want to reconsider; these winds are set to show off their skills at speeds up to 45 km/h. Hold onto your hats, or they just might fly away!

Here’s the forecast for the Fiji group until midnight tomorrow: expect those cheeky south to southeast winds, which will be giving us a moderate to fresh breeze, occasionally gusty enough to remind you that hair gel is your friend.

For our friends in Navua, Suva, Nausori, Korovou, Rakiraki, and various other locations with a mouthful of a name, expect some cloudy spells with brief showers popping up uninvited. Southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Kadavu and neighboring smaller islands, you’re invited to the cloudy party too! But for the rest of you, fear not: fine weather will likely charm your socks off, although isolated showers could crash the party in the afternoon.

Do expect it to cool down at night, so maybe spread out those blankets on the couch!

Looking ahead to Thursday, the clouds are ready to make a return appearance in the same spots. But don’t be fooled—they’re more like fleeting guests than permanent residents. Cooler nights will be the norm again.

As for individual locations:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Cloudy with a stitch of brief showers. Bring a sweater for the night.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Mostly fine with a surprise afternoon shower. Don’t worry, the night will cool down nicely.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: The sunshine brigade is here apart from those sneaky isolated showers. Expect a cozy night ahead.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: Same delightful news—happy hours during the day with a chance of afternoon surprise showers.
– Natadradave/Korovou: Partly cloudy with the same brief showers making an appearance, and cool nights will keep you cozy.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca: A sunny day with the occasional uninvited afternoon shower. Expect cool night temperatures.
– Labasa: You guessed it—fine weather with possible afternoon showers to keep things interesting.
– Savusavu: Keep those umbrellas handy for brief showers and weather that cools down for the night.
– Lau/Lomaiviti: Pack your windbreakers for those sudelicious south to southeast winds and accompanied cloudy periods. Cool night coming your way!
– Kadavu: Just like everyone else, a chance of isolated showers but generally a fine day ahead.
– For Rotuma: The winds have settled down from their dramatic flair, but expect some lingering occasional showers and a few thunderous outbursts.

So there you have it! Stay safe, keep dry, and may your weather be ever in your favor!
