Weather Update: Raining Cats and Dogs or Just Cats?
The forecast is in, and it looks like Mother Nature is gearing up for a splash-fest over the Fiji islands! As of 7:30 PM on this fine January 18th, 2026, we’re tracking a sneaky weak trough of low pressure hanging out to the west of our beautiful islands, bringing clouds and occasional showers along for the ride. Meanwhile, a moist north to northwest wind is spreading its charm across the country, and things are about to get a bit drizzly around here!
For the Fiji group tonight and into tomorrow, expect an encore of occasional showers in Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua, Rakiraki, and several other interior marvels. Bua, Lekutu, Dreketi, Seaqaqa, Labasa, Namuka, Udu Point, and Taveuni will also get in on the action, soaking up those clouds. Lau and Lomaiviti groups will have periods of cloudiness sprinkled with some showers, but elsewhere? Sunshine is playing hide-and-seek, with just a few afternoon or evening showers to contend with. Isolated thunderstorms are on the menu for most places, though, so remember your umbrella— or at least a hat to hide under!
Localized heavy showers might lead to some flash flooding in those low-lying areas, so keep your eyes peeled if you live near small rivers or streams; you never know when they’ll decide to throw an impromptu pool party! The winds are making themselves known too, blowing in at a moderate to fresh northerly pace, while the seas are showing a bit of sass— moderate to rough, much like trying to navigate a teen’s mood after being told to clean their room.
What’s cooking for Tuesday, you ask? More of the same! Cloudy periods with showers are forecasted over our favorite spots, and while you’re at it, keep an eye out for thunderstorms making cameos, especially in the afternoons. The temperatures will be strutting around, starting with a low of 24 degrees and peaking at a cozy 31 degrees.
