Weather Bulletin
Brought to you by the Weather Wizards at the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, and issued at 10:45am on this fine Tuesday of March 25th, 2025.
Situation: Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A low-pressure trough is hovering just to the west of Fiji like that one friend who never knows when to leave the party. Expect some party crashers in the form of clouds and showers, particularly hitting the western parts of our beautiful islands until tomorrow. And just when you thought it was safe to step outside, another troublemaking trough has shown up southeast of the group, ready to sprinkle some of its delightful moisture on our eastern lands for the next few days. Meanwhile, enjoy the company of the moist northeasterly winds that have decided to stick around – they’re good company, as long as they keep their gusts under control.
Forecast to midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group: Get ready for a soggy soirée with occasional showers and a dash of isolated thunderstorms over the Yasawa and Mamanuca Islands, Western Viti Levu (that includes Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and all the way up to Tavua), as well as Kadavu and its cozy companions, Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Meanwhile, the eastern half of Viti Levu (yes, that’s Serua/Namosi through Navua to Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra) will enjoy a moody day with cloudy periods and the potential for some isolated heavy falls. And don’t let your guard down—elsewhere will see a mix of partly cloudy skies and afternoon or evening showers, with occasional thunderstorms dropping in for a visit and possibly causing some flash flooding in low-lying areas with all their drama.
Expect moderate northeasterly winds to offer a gentle breeze, but watch out for those gusty moments during the heavy showers and thunderstorms—like a cat that surprises you with an unexpected jump. Seas will be moderate too, so no wild surfing, please!
Outlook for Thursday: The theatrics will continue with occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms making appearances over the eastern half of Viti Levu (are you taking notes, Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu, Naitasiri, and Ra?), along with Lau, Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu, and the charming southern Bua. Don’t be surprised if it pours outside; heavy falls are anticipated over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu by afternoon time.
Now, let’s break down the outlook for your neck of the woods:
For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect cloudy periods and some showers. Isolated heavy falls might make things lively.
For Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are in the cards, potentially accompanied by isolated heavy falls.
For Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Same goes here—occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms may show up, with heavy falls expected to join the mix.
For Tavua/Rakiraki: Prepare for occasional showers and thunderstorms over Tavua. If you want sunshine, you may have to keep waiting; it’ll just be cloudy the rest of the day.
For Yasawa/Mamanuca group: More of the same—occasional showers and some thunderstorm fireworks, along with the possibility of hefty downpours.
For Labasa: Stay partly cloudy with some afternoon and evening showers coming by like the cousin who overstays their welcome, and they might just bring thunderstorms with them.
For Savusavu: Cloudy periods may bring some showers, and isolated heavy falls shouldn’t be ruled out.
For Lau/ Lomaiviti and Kadavu: Occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms are on the agenda, potentially with some heavy falls to keep things exciting.
For Rotuma: A low-pressure system is holding things up, so expect more clouds and showers until the situation clears up later today. The winds are moderate to fresh, so hang onto your hats.
Outlook for Thursday: Cloudy periods, some showers, and those thunderstorm guests are expected again.
So grab your raincoat and put on your best rubber boots; it’s going to be a fascinatingly drizzly time out there!
