Weather Update: Grab Your Umbrellas and Hold on to Your Hats!

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 4:40 PM on Thursday, January 29, 2026

Listen up, folks! We’ve got a Heavy Rain Alert in full swing for our friends in the Northern Division, Eastern Viti Levu, Kadavu, and those islands that are smaller than your neighbor’s dog. As for the rest of Fiji? Well, you can breathe easy because the alert has been lifted.

Now, let’s get to the windy news. The strong wind warning for Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, as well as various parts of the mainland, has been cancelled— so feel free to put away your kites and replace them with raincoats!

What’s that you’re feeling? Ah yes, a certain north-to-northwest wind flow is gracing our lovely islands right now, but hold onto your flip-flops— a low-pressure system will arrive to shake things up starting tomorrow.

Here’s what to expect until midnight: Expect to be serenaded by occasional rain across Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Tailevu, Naitasiri-Ra, the Northern Division, and Kadavu—but fear not, it’s not a monsoon yet! Other areas can expect some cloudy periods and a sprinkle of showers to keep things interesting. There might even be some isolated thunderstorms that could put the fun in “flash flooding”!

Winds will be moderate to fresh, and there’s a chance you’ll get a bit of a workout on the water with moderate to rough seas. So if you’re planning to go sailing, put your muscles to the test, but maybe not in a dinghy!

Looking ahead to Saturday, we’re still in for a wild ride with occasional showers and the odd thunderstorm popping up over Navua-Suva-Nausori-Korovou-Rakiraki and several other regions. Just don’t forget your floaties and life jackets— it might get messy!

Now, let’s get to the juicy details for various spots around Fiji:

For Navua / Suva / Nausori: Rain is on the agenda, with thunderstorms crashing the party. Tomorrow’s forecast? You’ll wake up to a min of 24 and a high of 30.

For Natadradave/Korovou: The rain will be here and make itself comfortable, but it should ease up tomorrow. Expect similar weather as Navua—min 24, max 30.

For Sigatoka/Coral Coast and our beach buddies in Yasawa/Mamanuca: Cloudy periods, a few showers, and possibly some dramatic thunderstorms could roll by. Expect a cozy min of 24 and a max of 31 tomorrow.

For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Let’s not forget the rain and possible thunderstorms! Tomorrow’s forecast will also be a min of 24 and a max of 31—so keep that umbrella at the ready!

For Labasa, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, and Taveuni: Occasional rain should be your new best friend, with thunderstorms likely to drop in for a visit. You’ll see similar temps—min 24 and max between 30 and 32.

For the islands of Lau and Lomaiviti: Occasional rain and thunderstorms are in the cards as well, with the same warm invitation to relax at min 24 and max 30.

For Kadavu: Brace yourself for strong north to northwest winds (up to 45 km/hr, with gusts even higher!). Occasional rain is on the way, so hold on to anything that isn’t anchored down. Tomorrow will see a nice min of 24 and max of 30.

For Rotuma: Just a heads-up, a strong wind warning and an invitation for occasional heavy rain are still in effect. Expect it to be a tad rough out there with winds hitting 20-25 knots. Minimum of 24 and max of 30 for you too!

So, whether you’re dancing in the rain or dodging puddles, stay safe and keep that spirit high!
