Weather Update

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 10:45am on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025.

Guess what? That heavy rain alert for the Northern Division and Lau Group? It’s been canceled! We know you were secretly hoping for a rain dance, but no need to break out the rubber boots just yet.

So, what’s happening out there? A leisurely trough of low pressure has decided to take a scenic tour just east of Fiji. Meanwhile, a moist northwesterly wind is blowing right over our Northern and Eastern divisions, while everyone else is enjoying a southwestern airflow. Just to keep you on your toes, a weak little trough is planning to show up starting tomorrow.

Here’s the forecast before we hit midnight tomorrow for our lovely Fiji group: Expect occasional showers with possible isolated thunderstorms over the Northern Division, Yasawa, and Lau groups. Isolated heavy falls could occur, so keep your umbrellas handy unless you want an impromptu water feature in your backyard.

Now, if you’re in Serua-Namosi, Sigatoka, Nadi-Lautoka-Ba, Tavua-Rakiraki, Interior Ba, Interior Nadroga-Navosa, Kadavu, or any of those charming small islands, you should be fine, just with a splash of brief showers. The sunshine will mostly be on show with just a few shy clouds.

For everyone else, hold on to your hats! More showers are making their grand debut starting tomorrow, and for Thursday, pack your raincoat. Cloudy periods with some showers are on the horizon, and afternoon thunderstorms might even decide to crash the party in the eastern half of Viti Levu.

Now, breaking it down area by area:

– **Navua / Suva / Nausori:** Expect a fine day punctuated by fleeting afternoon or evening showers. The rain joins the party tomorrow.

– **Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:** A nice day overall with some brief showers. By tomorrow, those showers will be putting in some overtime.

– **Sigatoka/Coral Coast:** Same gentle vibe with brief showers. Tomorrow though, those clouds are coming to say hello.

– **Tavua/Rakiraki:** More clouds are rolling in with showers. Don’t be surprised if tomorrow brings a sprinkle or two.

– **Yasawa/Mamanuca group:** The Mamanuca group might catch a brief shower, but other than that, it’s all sunshine. Expect the clouds to start stacking up from tomorrow.

– **Labasa and Savusavu:** Both will see occasional showers, and there’s potential for some thunder rolling in. You might want to avoid the low-lying areas for a bit; we’ve got localised heavy falls that could lead to flash floods. Stay safe!

– **Lau/Lomaiviti:** Occasional showers with a dash of thunder in the Lau group as well. Lomaiviti might just get some teasing brief showers. Tomorrow will bring even more action.

– **Kadavu:** It’s looking fine, apart from a few brief showers. Then, more clouds are expected tomorrow.

– **Rotuma:** An active convergence zone is keeping things lively with occasional rain and some thunderstorms. Expect those winds to be moderately fresh and the seas to be a bit rough.

So, in short, don your best storm gear or strut your sunshine shades; either way, it looks like Mother Nature is keeping us on our toes this week! Stay tuned for more weather wisdom as it unfolds!
