Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, at the unreasonably early hour of 10:45 AM on Saturday, January 17th, 2026.

Hold onto your umbrellas folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is still going strong for the Eastern and Northern regions of the fabulous Fiji Group. It’s as if Mother Nature has stocked up on her cloud juice and is ready to pour.

What’s happening: A trough of low pressure has decided to camp out in the northern and eastern areas, bringing along its entourage of clouds and rain. Meanwhile, a warm, moist wind is sweeping across the country, which should be a delightful experience, unless you value staying dry.

The Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the Fiji group:
Prepare for some frequent rain showers and the occasional thunderstorm to crash the party over Vanua Levu, the Yasawas, Taveuni, and nearby isles. Don’t worry too much; the rain should ease to mere showers from later tonight—sort of like turning down the volume on a boisterous party.

Keep your raincoats handy in Sigatoka-Nadi-Lautoka-Ba-Tavua-Rakiraki, as the interior of Ba and Ra, Naitasiri, and Tailevu North will also see scattered showers. Elsewhere, expect fine weather to be interrupted by some afternoon or evening showers trying to sneak in.

And yes, we might see some isolated thunderstorms delivering heavy downpours. Caution is advised as localized heavy rainfall can lead to some small rivers and streams suddenly deciding to go for a swim in your neighborhood.

Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh, which is just a fancy way of saying that you might want to hold onto your hats. The seas? Moderate to rough—so consider it nature’s rollercoaster on the water.

Looking ahead to Monday: Cloudy periods with showers will once again be the theme over Sigatoka-Nadi-Lautoka-Ba-Tavua-Rakiraki, as well as a few other spots. It seems like the fine weather is on a vacation, apart from the odd afternoon or evening shower with thunderstorms and heavy falls making guest appearances.

For specific locations:
Navua / Suva / Nausori: Expect fine weather with afternoon or evening showers and heavy “surprise” thunderstorms. Min: 24, Max: 31.
Natadradave/Korovou: Fine weather, but remember those showers and thunderstorms are lurking! Min: 24, Max: 29.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Rain is here, plus occasional thunderstorms joining the scenic views. Min: 23, Max: 30.
Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Occasional showers are in store. Min: 23, Max: 30.
Ya बादु Fengy: The Yasawa/Mamanuca group is in for a heavy rainy reunion. Min: 24, Max: 30.
Labasa & Savusavu: Occasional rain and thunderstorms, but it eases to light drizzle later—maybe they’re just saving their energy for the next day. Min: 24, Max: 29.
Kadavu: Fine weather for now, but don’t forget those surprise showers. Min: 23, Max: 30.
Rotuma: The clouds are loving the rain; expect occasional thunderstorms and some strong winds. Min: 25, Max: 29.

In conclusion, think wet, wild, and a bit breezy for the next few days. If you see clouds telling you to grab a raincoat, you’d better listen!
