Weather Update:
Issued bright and early from the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi at the charming hour of 5:30 am on Thursday, December 25th, 2025.

What’s happening? Well, we’ve got a rather sluggish trough of low pressure hanging around the northern parts of our beautiful islands, looking like it can’t quite decide where to go. This little weather mystery will bring some cloud cover and showers to the Northern Division later today, so don’t forget your umbrella if you’re headed that way!

In the meantime, a moist southeasterly breeze is making itself comfortable over the country, probably looking for a good cup of tea.

The forecast until midnight is somewhat of a mixed bag. Expect cloudy spells with some showers taking center stage. There might even be the occasional heavy downpour and a few thunderclaps for a dramatic effect – especially in areas like Serua-Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Tailevu-Naitasiri-Ra, and others.

The good news? These places might just get their own dramatic uplifting soundtrack in the form of isolated thunderstorms! Elsewhere, it’ll be fine, aside from the chance of a surprise afternoon or evening shower popping up like an unwelcome relative. Be mindful though – those persistent showers might lead to flash flooding in low-lying areas, so it’s best to keep your feet dry!

We’ve got moderate to fresh southeasterly winds blowing through, which may get a bit gusty when those heavy showers and thunderstorms roll in. Don’t be surprised if the seas get a little moody too, as we expect them to be moderate to rough.

Let’s peek ahead to Friday: More of the same, folks! Cloudy periods with showers expected over Eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Southern Bua, and Taveuni. The rest of you will have brief showers and some more clouds, but hey, partly cloudy is basically half-sunny, right?

Taveuni, Lau and Lomaiviti group, and Kadavu get to join the cloudy parade with some showers as well. Stay tuned for Min: 22, Max: 31.
