Weather Update
Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi, on this fine Friday at 3:30pm, January 2, 2026.
Here’s the latest scoop: a pesky trough of low pressure has decided to throw a cloud and shower party over the eastern parts of Fiji. Meanwhile, the wind is trying to play nice, blowing in from the south to the northeast like it’s enjoying a leisurely Sunday drive.
Tonight’s forecast for Fiji: Expect some occasional showers and isolated heavy downpours over areas like the Coral Coast to Navua, Greater Suva/Nausori-Tailevu, Ra-Naitasiri, and a few other places that could really use a rain dance. Southern Bua, Cakudrove, Lau, Lomaiviti, and Kadavu are also on the shower list. So grab your umbrellas—or better yet, a flotation device—for those low-lying flood-prone spots!
Elsewhere, if you’re not caught under a cloud, it’ll be mostly fine, except for some cheeky afternoon or evening showers that might pop up just to keep you on your toes. As for the wind? Think moderate to fresh – it’s trying its best to stay breezy without turning your hat into a frisbee. And the seas? They’re feeling a tad rough, so keep that in mind if you were planning on channeling your inner Aquaman.
Now looking ahead to Sunday: Spoiler alert – more of the same! Occasional showers and heavy falls are set to rain on your parade, especially over the usual suspects. The rest still has a shot at being fine, perhaps with a few unexpected guests in the form of light showers.
For those of you in Navua, Suva, or Nausori: Prepare for occasional showers and, yes, isolated heavy falls. Tomorrow’s temp will be peeking from 23 to a sizzling 30 degrees.
In the land of Natadradave/Korovou: Expect the same watery situation with temperatures mirroring your neighbors.
Sigatoka and the Coral Coast? Get ready for that familiar mix of occasional showers – same story, different day.
For Nadi, Lautoka, and Ba: You’ll mostly dodge the rain, except for some potential afternoon comedy in the form of showers and thunderstorms. Your temps will cozy up between 23 and a sunny 32.
And for all you thrill-seekers in Tavua and Rakiraki: A fine day awaits, with a likelihood of afternoon showers to keep things interesting.
Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Nothing but fine vibes here, though there’s a small chance the clouds might remember they have a party to crash in the afternoon.
Labasa, your forecast boasts a fine day with potential thunderstorms – so keep that umbrella handy; you never know when it might decide to rain cats and dogs!
Over in Savusavu: Showers are back on the menu. Expect the usual with a dash of heavy magic.
Nabouwalu, Taveuni, Lau, and Lomaiviti: Showers will be your unpredictable companions, so be prepared for some watery antics.
Finally, for the serene Rhythms of Rotuma: It’s mainly fine, as if the island wanted to flaunt its sunny disposition. With a promise of moderate seas and a comfortable 25 to 32 degrees, consider it your lucky day.
Stay dry (or enjoy the rain if you’re feeling adventurous)!
