Weather Update!

Brought to you by the National Weather Forecasting Centre, Nadi (and possibly a bit of magic from above).

It’s 3:30 PM on January 16, 2026, and guess what? The sky is still auditioning for a role in a dramatic rain thriller! Yes, a heavy rain alert remains in play for the northern and eastern parts of our gorgeous Fiji islands. So, if you were planning on a spontaneous picnic, you might want to rethink that.

Currently, a rather moody trough of low pressure is hovering around, showering our northern and eastern regions with clouds and rain like an overly generous confetti cannon at a parade. Meanwhile, a moist breeze from the north-west is making sure that the air stays as humid as a sauna—just without all the relaxing benefits.

Here’s what to expect until midnight tomorrow: Occasional rain, accompanied by a few loud and flashy thunderstorms will create quite the spectacle over Vanua Levu, Taveuni, and those smaller islands nobody ever remembers the names of. But fear not; rain will ease to showers tomorrow—it’s like the clouds are saying, “Okay, I’ll stop now, but just for a bit!”

In the lovely Nadi-Lautoka-Ba-Tavua-Rakiraki area, expect a rollicking mix of cloudy spells and awkward showers, perfect for making those romantic candlelit dinners feel ‘moodier’. Other areas can expect fair weather—well, fair until the afternoon or evening when those mischievous showers and thunderstorms decide to crash the party. Remember, localized heavy falls could lead to flash flooding, so keep your floaties handy!

Outlook for Sunday: It seems our cloudy companion is sticking around with some showers expected over Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, and similar spots. While some areas may enjoy fine weather sprinkled with afternoon tomfoolery (read: showers and thunderstorms).

For specific places, here’s the more detailed scoop:
– Navua / Suva / Nausori: A dandy mix of fine weather, trying to hold it together but with afternoon/evening showers sneaking in later. Min: 24, Max: 31.
– Natadradave/Korovou: Fine weather with a hint of drama in the afternoon/evening thunderstorms. Min: 24, Max: 29.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Fine weather too, but beware of the thunderstorms who think they’re the life of the party! Min: 23, Max: 30.
– Nadi / Lautoka / Ba: Preparing for a cloudy stage with some shy showers. Min: 23, Max: 30.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: A tasty mix of clouds and showers for your enjoyment! Min: 24, Max: 30.
– Labasa & Savusavu: Expect some dramatic rain, along with a flashy performance from thunderstorms, easing to showers soon. Min: 24, Max: 29.
– Up in lovely Rotuma, prepare for an encore with moderate winds and playful showers. Min: 25, Max: 29.

Pack your umbrellas and life vests accordingly, and remember, even in wet weather, a good smile and a splash of laughter can brighten up any gloomy day!
