Weather Update
From the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi, issued at 3:30 PM on Monday, February 17th, 2025
Hold onto your umbrellas, Fiji, because a HEAVY RAIN ALERT is strutting across the entire group like it owns the place! If you’re interested in reading more about this deluge drama, check out the weather website—if you dare!
What’s going on? Well, there’s a lazy trough of low pressure lounging around overhead, bringing clouds and rain that just can’t seem to make up their minds to move on. It looks like this wet visitor is set to stick around for the foreseeable future.
From now until midnight tomorrow, prepare for a rendezvous with occasional rain, heavy showers, and a sprinkle of thunderstorms. Localized downpours might just turn some low-lying areas into unexpected swimming pools, so stay vigilant! Winds will be moderate but might boost their skills to gusty in those heavy rain zones. And for our sea lovers—plan for moderate seas, but expect things to get rough with squalls. Just don’t ask the fish how they feel about it!
As we look towards Wednesday, the forecast is more of the same: occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms over Vanua Levu and the northern Lau group. Expect some showers and isolated thunder from Kadavu to Viti Levu, especially from Sigatoka to Navua, extending all the way to Suva up to Tailevu North.
For a closer look at the individual areas:
**Navua / Suva / Nausori:** Get your raincoat ready—there will be heavy rain and a few thunderstorms.
**Nadi / Lautoka / Ba:** Keep the umbrellas handy; we’ve got occasional heavy rain and some thunder looking for an audience.
**Sigatoka/Coral Coast:** More rain and thunder in the forecast. Make sure your flood insurance is up to date.
**Tavua/ Rakiraki:** The weather gods are blessing you with rain and thunder. Localized flooding—put those rubber boots to the test!
**Yasawa/Mamanuca group:** Rain and thunder are eager to make a splash here too!
**Labasa & Savusavu:** Heavy sessions of rain and thunder will be here, so maybe binge-watch that series you’ve been meaning to catch up on!
**Lau/ Lomaiviti:** Occasional rain and thunder will be your guests, with a special appearance by heavy rain in the northern Lau group.
**Kadavu:** Yep, you guessed it—rain and thunder are on the itinerary!
**Rotuma:** Windy weather is the main event, with strong winds making things lively over the waters.
So, there you have it, Fiji! Looks like it’s a water park day outside, so grab your snorkel and goggles (or just your big non-leaky umbrella) and stay dry out there!
