Hold onto your umbrellas, folks! A HEAVY RAIN ALERT is currently in effect for the whole Fiji Group, and while we may love a good downpour for watering our gardens, this one’s on the heavier side. Don’t let the rain catch you off guard—check the details at www.met.gov.fj!
Situation: A meandering trough of low pressure has decided to set up camp to the north of Fiji, while another sneaky band of clouds is approaching from the west. We’ve got abundant moisture courtesy of the northwesterly winds, which means our skies are going to be busy entertaining us with rain and the occasional thunderstorm until later tomorrow.
Forecast until midnight tomorrow for the charming Fiji group includes:
– For Vanua Levu and northern Lau group: Expect sporadic rain, heavy at times, with a few thunderstorms popping in to say hello.
– For the bustling interior of Viti Levu, from Sigatoka to Navua and up to Tailevu North, showers will ramp up to full-on rain, becoming more frequent in the afternoon or evening, with those friendly thunderstorms wanting to join in on the fun.
– Elsewhere, it’s a mix of partly cloudy skies with occasional rainfall. Some isolated heavy downpours might come knocking, especially in the afternoon. Rain will ease up from the west later tomorrow, so there’s light at the end of the puddle!
As for wind, expect moderately gusty northwesterly winds in areas where the rain is throwing itself a party. The seas? They’ll be moderate, but don’t be surprised if squalls stir things up a bit!
Tuesday’s Outlook: Anticipate more of the same! Occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms will keep Vanua Levu and the northern Lau group entertained, while the southern Lau and Lomaiviti regions will see their fair share of occasional showers and lightning flashes. The rest of Fiji will enjoy a partly cloudy mix with a little sunshine peeking through, perhaps trying to coax us out for a swim—though those afternoon showers may just have other plans!
Spot-specific forecasts include:
– For Navua/Suva/Nausori: Rain is on the horizon, increasing its guest list in the afternoon to include more frequent showers and a few thunderstorms.
– For Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Look forward to partly cloudy skies with a few surprise rain showers and spontaneous thunderstorms joining the mix in the afternoon.
– For Tavua/Rakiraki: Get ready for those pesky showers to ramp up to frequent rain in the afternoon with some thunder to amp up the drama.
– For Yasawa/Mamanuca: It’s partly cloudy with occasional rain drops flirting with heavier falls and more thunderstorms in the afternoon.
– For Labasa & Savusavu: Expect occasional heavy rain and rumbling thunderstorms—sounds like a perfect excuse to curl up with a good book!
– For Lau/Lomaiviti: Northern Lau can expect heavy rain and thunder, while the rest will manage with some light showers and isolated thunder.
– For Rotuma: You guessed it, it’s a trough party! Occasional rain with an invitation for thunderstorms, plus some gusty winds to keep things lively.
So grab that raincoat and endure the weather rollercoaster with a smile—Fiji’s got a wet and wild ride ahead!
